Writing about mental healthcare has been the main focus of my career. I also enjoy writing poetry and sharing the joy of writing with others.

Pandemic poem

March 2020

Two thumbs and a phone
An illness unknown

We type as they tell us
We have to stay home

This Covid 19
Just what can it do

What might it bring out
From me
And from you

Our best and our worst
They travel together

Those blessed with a nest
Stuck home with their feathers

“It’s crazy”
A phrase
Tough to discern

Understanding is lacking
Crazy means we must learn

A virus inspires us
In ways unforeseen

Silver linings are visible
Right, left, in-between

Our plans are disrupted
And so are the scenes

The acts have been halted
Routines smiterened

This Pandemic panic
So sudden and swift

Closed schools through the summer
The kids are adrift

Some float and some flounder
Afraid to stay in

Grief is the water
Help them to swim

Though tears don't come down
Anger stopped by

Bargaining brought up depression
And why

Acceptance, it knows
With time, we’ll abide

The answers to sickness
At home we must hide

Some lives will be ended
And some will be spared

Perhaps it’s all worth it
If more of us care

This game we’ve been playing
Which some find a bore

The news is revealing
Who wins with no score

Each full breath a gift
No life lives without

The air that we breathe
Let’s no longer flout

Rediscover your partner
Your children
Your friends

I pray we use screens less
When this crisis ends

6 feet is a distance
We’ll never forget

Beings grounded by god
May it just save us yet
